Camas board adopts 2025–28 contract with teachers' union; member recuses

The Camas School district board of directors approved the district——2025—6028 collective bargaining agreement with the Camas Education Association on the first day of school meeting, moving immediately afterward to a signing ceremony.

Board President Connie made the motion to adopt the contract and Matthew seconded, and the board voted to approve the agreement. Board member Corey announced a conflict of interest and recused himself from the vote because his wife is a CEA member. After the vote the board invited union and district representatives forward to sign the agreement.

The superintendent thanked bargaining teams from multiple district employee groups for reaching tentative agreements this summer and singled out the CEA leadership and the district——administration for quickly completing negotiations so the contract could take effect as the school year began. The motion and vote were presented as routine business during the meeting; the board did not debate the contract terms at length during the public meeting.

The approval triggered an immediate signing at the dais. No formal vote tally by individual named board members was recorded in the public transcript beyond the recusal; the board chair called for the vote, members answered "aye," and the motion passed.

The district said the contract ratification was meant to provide certainty for staff and families as the school year started; the superintendent noted other bargaining groups have contracts pending ratification and that PSE negotiations remain scheduled for next year.

The board——action is now part of the district——administrative record and the signed agreement will be filed with district business services.
