Montezuma County commissioners approve minutes and consent agenda; sign variance paperwork

MONTEZUMA COUNTY, Colo. — The Montezuma County Board of Commissioners on Aug. 19 approved the proceedings from its Aug. 12 meeting, adopted a consent agenda of routine items and signed paperwork related to a previously approved after-the-fact setback variance, the board said.
The board’s chair (name not specified) opened the meeting and asked for additions or corrections to the Aug. 12 minutes. A motion to approve the minutes was moved and seconded and carried by voice vote. The chair also noted a clerical correction to a resolution from the previous week, saying the measure should read 234 square feet rather than “400 feet,” and that the resolution would be amended to reflect the change.
Planning staff told the board that the item before them was “short and sweet” and that “all we have is an after-the-fact setback variance document to be signed that was previously approved,” and later collected recording fees and corrected documentation related to the April action.
The board approved a consent agenda that, according to the meeting record, included a juvenile services planning committee member list, decisions for fairground use by the U.S. Forest Service (with a Bureau of Indian Affairs request canceled) and approval for CBI to use the county’s shooting rings. A motion to approve the consent agenda was moved, seconded and carried by voice vote.
County staff member Travis reported on several administrative items. He said he will work with county attorneys on the first round of collective bargaining with the sheriff’s office and noted his appointment to a gaming impact committee. He told commissioners that Good Sam’s is expected to take over distribution of commodities from the county social services program, although he said that arrangement was still under discussion. Travis clarified a circulating rumor by saying, “The crusher is not being sold. It is being worked on, repaired, and updated.”
Commissioner Kopenhafer said he had little to report after being out of town, and another commissioner noted attendance at Colorado Counties, Inc.’s Western District meeting and a planned tour of agrivoltaics in Delta County. Commissioners also cautioned residents about regional wildfire smoke: the Stoner Mesa fire remains in neighboring Dolores County, and officials urged people with respiratory issues to stay inside and consult their physicians when necessary.
The board heard an update that the housing authority has hired an additional staff member for its choice voucher program. The meeting proceeded without a county attorney present and no executive session was held. With no public comment, the board adjourned.
