Kalispell council hires GMP Consultants for city manager recruitment at $19,500 base fee

The Kalispell City Council voted Aug. 18 to retain GMP Consultants to lead the search for a new city manager, authorizing a base fee of $19,500 plus advertising and travel expenses.
City Manager Doug Russell said the city solicited a limited number of firms and recommended GMP Consultants, noting the firm’s regional experience and prior successful searches for the city. "We've recommended using executive recruiting services... we'd recommend going with GMP Consultants... at a 19,500 base fee plus advertising and travel expenses," Russell said.
Councilor Dowd moved to enter into an agreement with GMP Consultants for the city manager recruitment; Councilor Nunnally seconded. A roll call vote recorded unanimous approval: Councilor Hunter, Councilor Nunnally, Councilor Carlson, Councilor Graham, Councilor Dowd, Councilor Fisher and Mayor Johnson voted aye.
Why it matters: The contract starts the formal external search process for a permanent city manager after the council previously appointed an interim manager. The firm’s fee covers base recruitment services; advertising and travel will be charged in addition.
Implementation: The city will proceed with GMP’s recruitment plan and report search milestones to the council.
