Superintendent highlights new‑staff onboarding, summer meals and Iowa Supreme Court visit

“The new staff just felt extremely welcomed,” Dr. Morris said, describing new‑teacher orientation activities and a planned district tour that will end with an informal ice‑cream stop. She told the board that technology staff helped new teachers with district instructional systems and that a broader recap of summer accomplishments will be presented at a future meeting.
Dr. Morris also reported a partnership with the City of Bettendorf to expand summer meal access: “Over 684 meals were served to students in our community this summer,” she said, noting the district provided meals at two school sites and at two parks where summer programming attracts families.
The superintendent announced a notable event scheduled for Sept. 16: the Iowa Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in the district’s performing arts center at 7 p.m. The case is State Public Defender v. Iowa District Court for Scott County, Dr. Morris said. The morning of Sept. 16, a justice will visit classrooms and small groups; the district will host a reception after the arguments sponsored by the local bar association.
Dr. Morris asked the community to note open houses, unpack‑your‑backpack events and a community expo at the high school in late August. She confirmed the first day of school will be Monday, Aug. 25, and thanked district and community partners that supported orientation events.
