She listed five requests tied to Cole County: a $5,000,000 request for the High Street viaduct replacement (noting the bridge's deterioration and a hole developing in the deck in 2022); a $2,500,000 request for a snow removal equipment building at Jefferson City Memorial Airport; a $5,000,000 request for expansion of the Jefferson City Police Department headquarters to support emergency response operations; a $5,000,000 request for a centralized wastewater collection and treatment center in a locality identified as Sinner Town; and a $2,311,000 (reported as $2,311,000.943 in the record) request for a Jefferson City Fire Command Center to create a training and emergency response center.
Sarah said some federal funding was released July 1 and that another disbursement is projected in October. She also said changes at the U.S. Department of Education raised concerns about Title I programs but that she had checked and local schools in Cole County had received appropriations and were projected to receive another disbursement in October.
Sarah cautioned commissioners that submission of requests to the Appropriations Committee does not guarantee funding: "just because he put forth this request and that he requested the maximum level does not guarantee that the House Appropriations Committee will decide to provide the funding or will include that into the final bill," she said.
Ending: Commissioners thanked Sarah and noted other local needs (for example, EMS) might be candidates for future requests; no formal county action on the requests was recorded during the session.
