County moves ahead on radio tower plan; Draper site cleared, WOJB meeting set after Edgewater denial

County public-safety staff updated the committee on a multiyear radio tower and communications upgrade project, saying the Draper tower will be located on county property and a meeting is scheduled Aug. 19 to discuss using the WOJB tower.
Mike, a public safety staff member, said the Draper tower will be on county property and that land status paperwork was completed because the project serves public-safety communications. He said zoning denied a proposed tower in Edgewater but that an alternate leased tower site is likely available though it may cost more.
The committee discussed school radio reception and possible boosters; Nicole said schools had previously looked at purchasing boosters for buildings. Committee members identified school radio service for school resource officers and truancy officers as a safety concern and asked staff to explore whether that need fits into the county's broader radio project or requires separate funding.
Mike said the county will continue tower negotiations and related zoning and lease work and will update the committee after the Aug. 19 WOJB meeting.
