Summer camps, music programs and ELD camp served hundreds; YMCA contract extended and multiple facility requests filed

District officials on Aug. 11 summarized summer programs and upcoming facility‑use requests and described a YMCA contract alignment that would extend school‑age childcare through 2027.

Administrators reported that the Falcon Summer Science Camp ran July 14–18 at Union Canal Elementary and had increased enrollment by about 20 students from the prior summer; the program operated roughly 9 a.m.–2 p.m., provided free breakfast and lunch in coordination with the ELD/EL camp week, and included assemblies such as Science Explorers and Forgotten Friends Reptile Refuge. The district said roughly three classroom sections were used for the camp.
