Cornwall-Lebanon nears completion of Falcon Connector; veterans memorial work ordered

The Cornwall-Lebanon School District told its board Aug. 11 that the Falcon Connector project is in its final days and considered "substantially completed," and that the district will seek ratification next week for several construction change orders and for a Veterans Memorial contract.

Mrs. Hentz, presenting the buildings and grounds update, said small remaining change orders are still working through the closeout process. She reported a general-contractor change order (Change Order 11) of $12,139 and said a mechanical-contractor allowance will generate a $5,120 credit back to the district. "It is considered substantially completed," Mrs. Hentz said of the connector, and she said the administration will ask the board to approve the ECI and Ah Moyer change orders at the August voting meeting.

The district also presented a separate Veterans Memorial scope that will sit in front of the Falcon Connector. After soliciting three vendors in June, the administration said Weaver Memorial provided the low quote: $20,245, with an estimated three-month duration and granite already ordered. The administration said it will ask the board to ratify that procurement so the vendor can continue work.

Construction updates extended to other major campus projects. Presenters said the high school renovation work is well under way and that a net credit change order was prepared after the district purchased certain art tables outside a contractor’s contract. Work this summer required digging into hallways to access sanitary and stormwater lines; some pipes were lined and others replaced. The district said many disturbed areas are safe to walk on but final finishes will continue in later renovation phases.

Earl Bolt Stadium improvements were described as ongoing. Demolition of the old bathrooms is complete and a new building with concessions and restrooms is planned. Presenters warned that unsuitable soils were encountered during stadium work and that a future change order to address that material is likely once the contractor can set a firm price. The administration said the stadium project is expected to continue through next August, and the high school renovation is a multiyear project planned through May 2028.

Smaller projects were also listed: re-roofing delayed by rain and now moving forward, replacement of a domestic hot-water heater and chiller work at Ebenezer Elementary, phased carpet replacement at South Lebanon Elementary, gym-floor work at Union Canal Elementary and planned fencing for a north playground. Photos from recent site visits — landscaping, a polished concrete floor in the connector and other progress shots — were shown to the board and will be posted on the district construction web page.

The administration will return to the board at the regular voting meeting next Monday with the formal change-order language and the Veterans Memorial ratification request.
