District staff explained the amendment would implement changes to ARS 15-350 described in the meeting, requiring districts to report incidents that could jeopardize a certified employee’s credential even when an employee resigns in lieu of termination. Dr. Driscoll said the change was intended to prevent certificated employees from resigning before a termination is recorded and then being hired by another district without reporting the prior incident.
Board members asked clarifying questions; staff said the district’s obligation would include notifying the state board in cases where employee conduct could have resulted in loss of certification. Staff said they would develop procedures and implement the reporting requirement in line with state guidance.
Next steps: Staff will return with recommended policy language and implementation steps consistent with the statutory amendments; no formal board action was taken at the Aug. 6 meeting.
