Council hears June budget report; survey shows majority preference for 3% salary increase

City staff told the council that as of the June budget report all departments were operating within their budgets and no department had spent more than its allocation for roughly 75 percent of the fiscal year.
Staff also summarized results of a brief budget priority survey circulated to council members. The questionnaire asked about salary‑increase options and the survey responses showed a majority preference for a 3 percent salary increase. The survey also asked members to rank priorities and whether fee increases (for permitting and other services) or property tax increases should be used to cover service costs; staff said the survey results have been incorporated into work on the upcoming budget and that staff will return with more detailed budget materials.
Councilors had no extensive questions during the report and staff offered to take follow‑up questions as members review the packet.
