American Heart Association donates reusable CPR kits to SCHERTZ‑CIBOLO‑U CITY ISD

Teresa Spies, executive director of the American Heart Association in San Antonio, described the importance of bystander CPR, saying most cardiac arrests occur outside hospitals and bystander CPR rates lag state and national averages. Spies urged the district to use the donated materials rather than letting them sit unused.
AHA staff described the kits as reusable, train‑the‑trainer modules intended to be used across campuses; district staff said they will coordinate with nurses and PE coaches to deploy training. The AHA told trustees that students as young as 8 can learn basic CPR skills and that the organization also offers the Kids Heart Challenge and Finn's Challenge programming for schools.
District staff accepted the donation of the kits; board meeting footage shows the kit handoff and a brief photo opportunity. Methodist Healthcare System was identified as the sponsor for the donated training equipment.
AHA representatives asked the district to contact the AHA school engagement team to expand training and student heart‑health programs across campuses.
