His attitude just toward helping people, his desire to help others," the chief said, adding that officers who interviewed Pennington called him "the real deal." The chief said Pennington—its the characteristics sought by the department and that his academy begins in September.
Martavius Pennington briefly addressed the council and thanked members for the appointment. He said he and his family are relocating to the area and described the opportunity as a good fit. The council conducted a motion and voice vote to approve the appointment; the meeting record shows the motion passed.
