Programs and events: Staff reported plans to form a competition dance team with about 25 three‑hour sessions, costumes and three regional competitions (Milwaukee, Wisconsin Dells and Green Bay); tryouts were expected in August with competitions in April. The department announced an adult night at the Aqua Park on Aug. 1 from 5 to 7 p.m., limited to 140 tickets sold online.
Facilities and capital projects: The commission said the Aqua Park is outperforming prior years — staff said the facility had already exceeded last year's revenue by mid‑June. The city is seeking design proposals for a new skate park with proposals due in August. Wingate Park construction is scheduled to begin Aug. 9 with volunteers assembling footings and follow‑on concrete, asphalt and mulch work in the following week; two new play structures will be added and some existing structures refurbished. Landscapes LLC is performing landscape installation at the Nature Playground and West Bend Sunrise Rotarians scheduled a planting day for July 26.
Event scale and staffing: Parks staff and the police, fire and public works departments supported the Dirty Ninja Mud Run the prior weekend. Staff reported 2,382 registered participants and estimated total attendees in the park of roughly 8,000 to 10,000 people over the weekend. Parks staff thanked volunteers and other city departments for event support.
Operational notes: Parks staff said the department is planning for the 2026 budget and considering an updated comprehensive park plan; staff noted the last evaluation was 10 years ago. Volunteers and seasonal staff remain integral to maintenance and event staffing; the department expects a combination of paid staff and volunteers for museum‑style attractions and other programming.
