Shelter served 128 unduplicated individuals in June; city explores periodic mental-health clinic partnership

Tracy Durante, the city’s community outreach lead, told the Public Health and Safety Committee on July 21 that 128 unduplicated individuals used the city shelter in June and that 46 of those were new to the shelter setting.
Durante said the shelter recorded four successful housings in June: one female guest was relocated to Antigo where she had supports, and three male guests were successfully housed. She also said two people who came from Shawano County in May and early June were relocated back to Shawano County by the end of June.
Durante said the shelter is exploring a partnership with the Medical College of Wisconsin to provide a mental-health clinic one or two times per month in the shelter and that staff will conduct a shelter survey to measure likely engagement before finalizing plans. She said two shelter positions remain open (shelter lead and shelter advocate) and that three candidates had been interviewed with some expected to start within weeks.
Durante thanked council volunteers for participating in recent shelter service nights; she said six or seven council members and the mayor volunteered and that the experience yielded helpful feedback from guests. She also said county board members had been invited to volunteer and that coordination with partners continues.
