Council and licensing board approve several licenses; finance committee accepts $50 donation for smoke/CO detector program

The West Bend Licensing Board and Common Council approved routine licensing items and the finance committee accepted a small donation for the fire department's detector program during the July 21 meeting.
Licensing approvals: The Licensing Board (Alderman Butchlich, Alderman Zingsheim and the mayor sitting as the board) approved a new Class B combo reserve liquor license for Beak's Joint, the former Hero of the Dog location in Barton; a new amusement device license (number 2526); a renewal of the massage establishment license for BJ and Company (2526); and a change of agent for GPM Southeast R Stores. Each licensing item was moved and seconded and carried by voice vote.
Fire inspection condition noted: During the Common Council consent‑agenda discussion, Chief (fire department) said Beak's Joint "did have some fire code violations" and added, "to my knowledge, they have not been successfully corrected yet. Obviously, that will have to take place before they can open a new business." The chief said the outstanding items related to vent hood and kitchen items and that inspections remain on top of the issue.
Finance committee donation: The finance committee considered and approved Resolution No. 24 to accept a $50 donation from Susan Lisonbee for the fire department's smoke detector and carbon monoxide detector program. The donation was presented by the fire chief and accepted by unanimous voice vote at the finance committee meeting.
What this means: Licenses were approved by the licensing board and forwarded as part of the council's consent agenda; the Beak's Joint license application remains subject to correction of outstanding fire code violations before the business may open. The $50 donation is accepted for use in the department's detector program.
Votes and procedural notes: Each licensing board item was approved by the hearing members by affirmative voice vote. Finance committee members voted to accept the $50 donation; the motion carried without recorded opposition.
