Committee holds bartender license for Christopher Kron; approves event and temporary permits

The Public Health and Safety Committee on July 21 deferred a decision on a bartender license application for Christopher (Chris) Kron and approved staff-recommended event and temporary licenses, the committee chair said.
Committee members cited multiple prior OWI convictions and illegal-prescription-drug charges on Kron’s record and permitted the applicant additional time to submit evidence of rehabilitation. Kron said he provided a document proving he finished probation for his most recent OWI in 2019; the police chief said that alone did not change the recommendation to deny and offered to meet with Kron after the meeting about what further documentation would be acceptable. The chair and committee agreed to set Kron’s application aside for the August meeting to allow him to submit additional materials and coordinate with police.
The committee also noted that Dane Nutter, a second individual recommended for denial, did not appear. Committee members approved the remainder of staff’s licensing recommendations, which included picnic and beverage-service permits for several community events (River West Fest, New Jobs on the Block job fair), a picnic license connected to the Mungwasa Festival, temporary licensing for the county fair and “Chamber’s Fun at 5” events, a permit for the Northwoods Summer Showcase tournament, and a dance hall permit for Jefferson Street Inn.
Police staff told the committee they are continuing to coordinate with Mungwasa Festival organizers about security roles and expectations. The police chief said festival organizers’ written expectations for law-enforcement roles did not match department plans, and staff would continue discussions so private security, the Hmong American Center’s security, and city officers have a clear division of responsibilities.
A motion to accept staff recommendations on licenses, with the exception of Christopher Kron’s bartender application (which was set aside), was made, seconded and approved unanimously.
The committee’s action means Kron’s application will be considered again at the next scheduled meeting; the record shows committee staff and the police department offered assistance to Kron on what rehabilitation documentation to provide.
