The Bayonne Municipal Council introduced and read proposed amendments to the city’s adopted 2025 municipal budget on July 16 and set a public hearing on the changes for Wednesday, July 23 at 6 p.m.
At the start of the public hearing on the previously approved calendar-year 2025 budget, a resident, Sharon Nedrowski of Avenue A, asked how much residents’ taxes would rise. A city official answered “about 3%,” describing that as the blended increase.
Council members read a series of line-item changes into the record during the meeting, including a reduction in anticipated surplus from $9,250,000 to $6,750,000 and an increase in certain miscellaneous revenues and special items (numbers read into the record by the clerk). The city clerk announced the amended budget will be published in the Bergen Record and the council will hold the required public hearing on July 23.
Council members voted to introduce the amendment and to schedule the July 23 hearing. The council also approved a separate administrative resolution to publish the amendment and continue the hearing process required by state law.
