Airport staff told authority members that Talon Aviation currently operates out of Twin Lakes in Davie County, employs four instructors and operates three aircraft. The company already rents hangar space at the Mount Airy airport and officials said the firm wants to base additional aircraft at the airport when the authority moves out of the current terminal building and into a new facility.
George Kreuter (airport staff) recommended approving negotiations and returning a proposed contract for authority review. The authority moved to instruct staff to begin one‑year contract negotiations for flight‑school services with Talon Aviation; the motion passed by voice vote.
Authority members asked about the company’s base and number of instructors and airplanes; staff said the firm has been operating for about five years and already buys fuel at the airport.
