City staff announced several upcoming community events and milestones during the Santa Fe Springs City Council meeting.
Parks and Recreation Director Gus Hernandez said the Paul T. Nakamura Regional Aquatic Center will hold a phase 2 groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday, Oct. 28, beginning at 4 p.m., and invited the community to attend. Hernandez described the event as a milestone as the city breaks ground on the project’s next phase.
Hernandez also invited residents to the city’s annual Halloween Carnival on Saturday, Oct. 25, at Los Nieto Park. The carnival will begin in the morning and feature food, laser tag, games, a kids zone and a live showing of the Dodgers game, he said.
Separately, Hernandez announced a collegiate softball showcase at Santa Fe Springs Athletic Fields on Oct. 25 beginning at 9 a.m., featuring teams including UCLA, Long Beach State, Fresno State and Loyola Marymount University. The two‑day showcase will include a 10 a.m. panel discussion and was organized in partnership with En Fuego, Hernandez said.
City staff asked residents to consult the city’s event notices for details on times, locations and participant lists.
