County says Lakeshore road work exceeded initial budget; commissioners agree to track extra costs

Public-works staff reported that work on Lakeshore required additional material and equipment rental time that exceeded the originally budgeted line item. Staff said they had budgeted $10,000 for the line but used additional rental days and mag (magnesium chloride or similar) and that the project needs were higher than anticipated.
Paul (public works) said crews used available salvage material from a weir project and planned to cap the road with gravel to reduce cost. The board asked that all time-and-materials, contractor rentals (roller, mag application) and material uses linked to Lakeshore be marked so the county can show clear accounting at the end of the fiscal year. Commissioners agreed to let the purchase-services line run negative if needed and to document expenditures so the fiscal-year reporting reflects actual work done.
No budget amendment was adopted at the meeting; staff will return with an end-of-year accounting showing additional investments into Lakeshore.
