District staff say Mercer study now proposes new-school replacement; presentation set for Sept. 9

Fremont County School District #25 administrators told trustees the Mercer facilities study has been reworked to reflect recent capacity changes and now includes options that could lead to a new-school replacement.
Superintendent Jody said Mercer used five projection methods and adjusted options because classroom configurations changed (cited as fourth- and fifth-grade class sizes moving to 24–25 students rather than 16-to-1). The revised options, to be reviewed by district leadership on Sept. 3, include remodeling Rendezvous School, constructing a new school, or an addition to Willow Creek with a Jackson remodel.
Jody told the board the School Facilities Commission has already included the district in the budget as a new-school replacement (initially described as a three-section school, with a possible smaller two-section design with flexibility for adding a third section by grade if enrollment warrants). If the select committee and governor approve, the project would proceed into legislative review and — if approved in session — move to program design by next July.
Trustees asked about scheduling: the School Facilities Commission is set to appear before the board on Sept. 9; the superintendent proposed a 5 p.m. work session for the commission presentation followed by the regular board meeting at 7 p.m., and trustees agreed to schedule the work session.
Why it matters Inclusion in the state budget, if carried through the approval process described by staff, would shift the district into the next stages of facility design and planning and set a timetable for locally directed program design in the coming year. District staff said final decisions about which option advances will be presented to the board for approval.
Ending Administration said it will send trustees details from the Sept. 3 district leadership review and confirmed the School Facilities Commission presentation will be scheduled for the Sept. 9 meeting.
