St. Paul HRA appoints Melanie McMahon as interim executive director

Chair Johnson opened discussion by praising McMahon’s record and announcing the nomination, saying, “I sincerely appreciate the thoroughness and the thought to detail to strategy and to prioritization that you have.” Several commissioners added their support. Vice Chair Joos said she was “really excited about this item” and Commissioner Yang and Commissioner Meeker each noted McMahon’s prior experience and partnership with council offices.
McMahon thanked the authority and described the work ahead: “I just wanna say thankful for the opportunity here before the housing redevelopment authority talking specifically about the executive director of the HRA,” and added she was “really privileged in my time in PED to really see that incredibly difficult work being done every single day by the committed employees of the department.”
Chair Johnson moved approval of the resolution; the authority voted “Aye” and the resolution was adopted 6-0.
Why this matters: the HRA manages financing tools and incentives used to support affordable housing and community development in Saint Paul. Commissioners framed McMahon’s appointment as a leadership transition intended to sustain ongoing financing and development work.
