County project staff provided a status update on the courthouse renovation. Remaining items include touch‑up painting and stain work, potential window repairs, installation of a few delayed doors, final IT work for the meeting room and buildingwide IT items, delivery and placement of some furniture and reseeding of lawn areas under warranty when weather permits.
Staff said the construction contractor continues to cover some minor costs from its contingency and that the county’s remaining contingency stood at just over $35,000 at the time of the update. The treasurer’s office cashed a matured certificate of deposit (CD), and staff reported $156,514.63 in excess interest that — by law or accounting restriction as explained in the meeting — cannot be spent on this building but must be invested in other county facilities.
The steering committee set a schedule to hold guided public tours on the evening of Friday, Sept. 5, followed by a formal ribbon cutting at about 5:45 p.m., with additional scheduled tours the following weekend if demand warrants. Staff said department moves from the East Annex are planned for the week of Dec. 8, and that the first furniture move has already occurred.
No formal action was taken; commissioners received the update and confirmed the schedule.
