District construction update: Reesville and North Brandywine openings; Dough Run and Kings Highway move forward

Architects and the district’s construction manager briefed the operations committee on Sept. 9 with status reports on multiple capital projects across Coatesville Area School District.

The most immediate news: additions at Reesville Elementary and the first phase of North Brandywine were completed over the summer and students have moved into the new spaces. David Schrader of the Schroeder Group and Matt Kelly of ICS shared photos and described remaining punch‑list and closeout work on both projects. Schrader said the North Brandywine addition was built so that a second phase, the new middle‑school structure, can be attached and completed later.

Dough Run: structure rising Construction at Dough Run is advancing from site and foundation work into visible steel and framing. The team said foundations and most underground work are finished, with the steel structure being erected and a target to have the building enclosed by year‑end so interior mechanical, electrical and plumbing work can proceed. ICS reported progress in coordinating MEP rough‑ins and said they expect continued staging of construction over the next year with an anticipated grand opening after finishing.

Scott Middle and other refreshes Scott Middle School received interior refreshes this summer — including gym refinishing, updated cafeteria and media‑center flooring and completion of a roofing project that began last year. The team said weather and unexpected conditions delayed some exterior work but the interior upgrades are complete and the site is moving through punch‑list closeout.

Kings Highway: design development and traffic study Kings Highway is in the design development phase but the district paused further land‑development submission to address a township request for a traffic study. The architects said the Kings Highway work will include a new canopy entry, extensive interior system replacements (mechanical, electrical, plumbing) and full media‑center and cafeteria refreshes designed to make the interior feel substantially renewed.

What’s next Presenters said North Brandywine phase‑2 design documents are on track for bid in early spring with construction planned to start after approvals and the next summer season. Dough Run’s completion schedule is expected to run into the next school year, while Kings Highway will resume land‑development steps after the traffic study wraps and the district responds to township comments.

Committee response Board members who toured projects praised the finished work and were encouraged by visible progress. The operations committee approved a set of small‑value vendor recommendations that relate to project completion (see consolidated votes list), and the construction team said they will continue to coordinate closeouts, final payments and community outreach moving forward.
