Taneytown planners preview multiple projects: fast-food sites, Taneytown Supply resubmittal, Garnet Ridge and ongoing construction

Planning staff briefed commissioners on several projects likely to return next month: two fast-food reconfigurations including a McDonald's site, a resubmittal from Taneytown Supply, Garnet Ridge pumping-station comments, Recovery 180 construction and a potential EVAPCO parking addition.
Planning staff told the Taneytown Planning Commission to expect a busy agenda in the coming month, previewing several concept and preliminary submittals.
Projects that staff said may return to the commission include: two fast-food restaurant proposalsone reimagining the McDonald's site at the Taneytown Shopping Center and another on the former tower-motors lot across the street; a resubmittal from Taneytown Supply on a site south of Krause; and a concept plan for a data-center site (see separate item).
Staff said the McDonald's parcel was previously subdivided off from the shopping center and now has separate ownership. A separate retailer has expressed interest in the former grocery-store space within the shopping center and may seek outdoor fenced display area approval; staff said an outdoor display could trigger site-plan review and possible variances for parking.
Active subdivisions include Garnet Ridge, where CDM Smith provided review comments on a pumping-station design and staff said a comment letter would appear in a future packet. Recovery 180 is under construction; staff reported sidewalks and concrete work are in progress and that the project remains open while infrastructure inspections and surety remain in effect.
Staff also said EVAPCO plans a new parking-lot concept for property north along FSK Highway and that the city expects a presubmittal and concept next month. No formal approvals were granted tonight for these items; staff asked commissioners to review forthcoming packets and attend next-month hearings as needed.
Several commissioners asked for confirmation that historic underground-tank remediation had been completed on the former gas-station property near the shopping center; staff said they had not seen contrary reports and that MDE's oil monitoring notices would flag any ongoing issues.
Taneytown Supply and other resubmittals were identified as slow-moving but active; staff said they would circulate fresh plan sets to commissioners when resubmissions arrive.
