Principals, facilities committee report progress on HVAC, auditorium, turf field, patio and gym improvements

District leaders and the Buildings, Grounds and Finance Committee reported progress on several capital and facilities projects during the meeting.
Dr. McCann, high school principal, described recently completed and in-progress work at the high school: a senior patio with picnic tables that is being used for lunch, a food kiosk near the gym, new windows for supervision of the patio area, and bleachers in the gym that open up additional space. McCann said the wellness center (a repurposed nursing space) will have a soft opening on Sept. 15 and will be staffed by counselors to provide students a supervised place to reset.
Committee member Mr. Zimmer and other committee members reported the auditorium project "got off to a slow start" but has since seen substantive progress. Zimmer said a rooftop HVAC unit for the middle school is expected to be delivered by mid-month. He said the gym project replaced a pole wall with a dividing curtain for safety and that the bleachers project is complete.
The turf field was described as installed and visually complete but not yet available for general use because a certificate of occupancy (CO) remains outstanding. Committee members said the project included a cooling additive called "cool play" and that a recent heat test showed the turf was no hotter than another nearby field.
No formal board action was recorded on the projects themselves at the meeting; committee members and administrators asked the board to note progress and to continue overseeing budget, safety and scheduling items related to the work.
