Abington board approves districtwide assessment plan after review to limit duplicate testing

The Abington Board of School Directors on Aug. 12 approved the districtwide assessment plan for the 2025–26 school year and directed the administration to notify parents and guardians in writing of the name and purpose of each assessment.
Administration officials said the assessment list contains required state and federal measures and district-selected assessments used for placement and program planning, and that the district has reviewed the schedule to reduce duplication and total assessment time for students. As an example, officials said adoption of a new K–5 reading program (Amplify CKLA) will replace i-Ready reading and "Acadian's Reading" assessments used previously.
Board members asked for clarity about which assessments are required and which are district-selected and expressed interest in minimizing assessment time while preserving necessary measurement for instruction and compliance.
Ending: The administration will notify families in advance of assessment dates and purposes and will continue evaluating opportunities to consolidate assessments.
