District reports Act 55 training progress, new SRO and PCCD security projects delayed by bids

The committee member said the district used a mix of slides, podcasts and AI‑assisted recordings to deliver a one‑hour mandated policy review for staff—counted as one of the three annual Act 55 hours required by state law. She said that the district will complete the remaining required in‑person Act 55 training (one hour on drills, emergency preparedness, communications and situational awareness and a remaining hour to be scheduled) by sending safety staff to each building over the next weeks.
The district welcomed Officer Bradley Pfeiffer as a third G‑Force school safety officer at the elementary schools. The presenter said Pfeiffer is a Chambersburg resident with prior military and investigative work and certifications noted in the meeting for SRO and weapons training (Act 235, Act 67 references were mentioned during the update).
The safety update described a walkthrough the district arranged for local first responders on Aug. 20 at the high school; attendees reviewed updated building maps, locations of shutoff valves and other infrastructure, and revised traffic patterns for cars, buses and emergency vehicles. The district’s facilities staff then worked with borough police to adjust the parent and bus loops and to upload school maps into the county system used by first responders.
On PCCD (Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency) grant projects, the presenter said the district completed installation of bollards and planters at other buildings, has remaining funds for high‑school and middle‑school exterior lighting and the addition of security cameras, but that bid packages released this spring for lighting and bollard work received no bidders. The district said it will repackage and rebid the remaining work once construction is complete.
The committee member and other administrators said the district will continue monthly workplace‑safety meetings, conduct building walk‑throughs to evaluate key card entries and intercoms, and follow up on camera and lighting installations when contractors are available.
