Committee reviews boys' volleyball MOU; district to bring it to full board

The Finance and Personnel Committee reviewed a proposed memorandum of understanding (MOU) to allow boys to play volleyball at Aurora East USD 131. Staff described the MOU as similar to a previously approved flag football MOU and said it will proceed through the full board review process.
A staff member told the committee the volleyball MOU includes classifications for an assistant coach and a head coach and that, unlike the earlier flag football agreement, the volleyball MOU will go through the district's full board process rather than an expedited route. "Flag football, we had to get through pretty quickly to make sure we could get the girls up and playing for that. So this 1, we will take through the full board gamut..." the staff member said. Students had previously appeared at the podium to request the opportunity for boys to play volleyball, the presenter said.
The committee received the MOU for review; no formal vote or approval occurred Sept. 2. The item will be placed on a future full board agenda for potential action in line with district procedures.
