The Buildings & Grounds Committee authorized staff to solicit bids this fall to repair gutters and flashing at Oak Park after facilities staff reported water infiltration that is causing cracking inside two third-floor stairwells.
Staff described the north-side gutters as aged and oxidized (green patina consistent with older copper) and said intense recent storms appear to be worsening the drainage; water reportedly penetrates brick joints and has caused wall cracking at upper levels. Facilities staff recommended aluminum flashing and gutter replacement and said the work could be scheduled on teacher in-service days or on Saturdays to avoid class disruptions.
Committee members voted informally in favor of letting staff proceed to solicit bids; one member noted the work should be done while roof crews are available and prices are favorable this season. Staff said windows at Oak Park are in rough shape and likely to be the subject of a future request.
