Mancos Conservation District outlines wildfire, watershed and irrigation projects

Danny Margolis, representing the Mancos Conservation District, told the Montezuma County Board of County Commissioners at their Aug. 25 workshop that the district is moving forward on multiple wildfire-mitigation and watershed projects.
"We are moving forward with planning for it," Margolis said of a proposed prescribed burn program, and acknowledged the risks: "It is a concern, and it's a good tool to reduce wildfire risk." He said The Nature Conservancy is expected to assume liability for at least one planned prescribed burn and that the conservancy may visit local sites this October to begin private‑land assessments.
