Commissioners also approved a $75 annual rate for an adjacent private storage unit that is too small to house an aircraft and confirmed existing second- and third-row land-rent rates for currently leased spaces (the board reviewed proposed adjustments to other existing hanger-site rents).
On tenant priority, the board voted to give first priority to owners whose hangars sit in a front row that the Federal Aviation Administration has indicated may need removal for future federally funded runway projects. After those displaced tenants are offered the new units, the remaining units will be offered first-come, first-served. The board directed that once new hangars are complete, owners from the affected front row will have 30 days after construction completion to claim a unit before the county opens remaining spots to the public.
County staff told commissioners the estimated county share of construction is approximately $41,000, with ongoing maintenance estimated in annual budgets. Commissioners discussed possible electricity metering, potential rental demand, and whether the new T-hangars can accommodate certain twin‑engine aircraft; staff said the hangars were designed to fit slightly larger aircraft classes than those currently based at the airport.
Votes recorded: the motion to approve the recommended rates and priority structure passed; a separate motion to set the single storage unit at $75 per year also passed.
