Menands, N.Y. — At a Village of Menands Board of Trustees meeting Monday, Aug. 18, trustees voted to let a Girl Scout troop build a sensory-garden project in village parkland, approved a transfer of $34,886.75 from contingency to computer and software for cybersecurity equipment, agreed to surplus a 2016 Dodge Charger for auction and authorized staff to explore creating a nonprofit "Friends of the Village of Menands." The board also scheduled a public hearing on Oct. 2 to consider a draft nuisance-alarm local law and opened a public-comment process on alternate-side parking for several village streets.
The Girl Scouts’ presentation came early in the meeting. “This project will be fully funded through donations of materials and time. Thank you for your time,” said Aliyah, identifying herself as a junior Girl Scout with Troop 5539. Trustees voted to allow the troop to work with village staff to develop the garden in one of the village parks; the motion was seconded and approved.
