The Boys & Girls Club representative updated the council on summer programs and plans for the coming school year, saying the site served roughly 130 children per day during summer programming, provided free swim lessons in partnership with the Guadalupe School District and will transport students from the three local schools to the Clubhouse for after‑school care.
"We had an average of 130 kids a day at Ron Estabello," Josue Rojo said. He described the club's open-house family event, field trips (including movie outings under a grant), a color run and an "adulting day" for teens offering resume-building, first aid, cooking and financial workshops.
Rojo said Congressmember Carbajal visited the site during the summer. He told the council the club arranged transportation from Marybethane, McKenzie and Guadalupe Junior High to the clubhouse and contracted a private firm to provide the buses. He said the club also provided breakfast, lunch and snacks and that summer enrollment was free.
Council members asked logistical questions about transportation and commended the club's volunteer and fundraising work. The representative said the after‑school program will operate weekdays with pickup times extending to 6:30 p.m. and that the club is coordinating with the school district on bus stops and schedules.
No city funding action was requested during the presentation; the update was informational.
