The committee approved a contract to hire a vendor to pick up wind-blown paper, plastics and other litter across the Dane County Landfill site and adjacent roadways. County landfill staff said the contract covers the entire landfill site (more than 110 acres) and the roads leading into the site, and explained the vendor would perform weekly routine pick-up shifts (two-person crews for a few hours) and mobilize additional personnel after high-wind events to remove larger accumulations.
Landfill staff said the work responds to regulatory obligations and contractual commitments with neighboring municipalities to keep roadways and neighboring properties clear of wind-blown litter. Staff noted the county previously used in-house staff for this work and that the contract would reduce the need for deputies and office staff to divert to manual litter collection after windy days.
The motion to approve the contract passed without recorded opposition in committee. Staff said the work is meant to keep the facility in compliance with environmental and municipal obligations.
