The Daviess County Fiscal Court on July 25 approved an amendment to the county salary schedule that reclassifies a fire-department position and ratified several promotions and retirements in the department.
Mr. Johnson told the court the salary-schedule amendment adjusts grade F4 from a starting rate of $33.63 per hour to $31.98 per hour and removes the fire-inspector position from F4 to make room for a battalion chief in training. The change will allow the new battalion chief in training to be placed in grade F4 and, upon completion of required training, be promoted to battalion chief in grade F5. Mr. Johnson said the restructuring does not increase the total number of employees but shifts how leadership positions are classified.
The court approved promotions announced at the meeting: Quentin Pence was promoted to lieutenant effective July 20; Ryan Trennel was promoted to battalion chief in training effective July 20; and Sam Henderson was promoted to lieutenant effective Aug. 3. The court also accepted two retirements: Brian Collins effective July 31, 2025, and Keith Herm effective Aug. 29, 2025. Members of the court and meeting attendees congratulated the promoted employees and thanked retirees for their years of service.
The court recorded the salary-schedule amendment and personnel actions by voice vote with no public objections during the meeting.
