The Daviess County Fiscal Court on July 25 accepted the county treasurer's final report for June 2025 and the fourth-quarter fiscal-year settlement, officials said at a noon meeting.
The report, presented by Mr. Johnson, showed a total cash balance of $76,094,194.78 and a general fund balance of $47,210,150.11 (after subtracting operating reserves and restricted funds). Cash available for general fund operations in fiscal year 2026 was reported as $37,437,628.25. The court voted to accept the final report as required by statute for the final quarterly report.
Mr. Johnson told the court that the county ended the fiscal year in a strong position and that the total outstanding principal balance for all county debt is $5,510,000, which is slated to be reduced by $1,150,000 in fiscal year 2026. He said the general fund posted an operating surplus of $5,260,000 for the year and explained components of that surplus: about $3,000,000 represents projects not completed in the fiscal year that were rolled forward; $1,450,000 is state rent revenue for projects not yet started; and $630,000 was a one-time deposit of accumulated interest from the closure of the ARPA fund. The remainder resulted from normal variability and departmental efficiency initiatives, he said.
When the presiding judge asked why the court votes to accept the treasurer's final report at this meeting but not the monthly reports, Mr. Johnson explained that monthly treasurer's reports are presented for information, while the final quarterly report requires formal acceptance by the court.
The acceptance of the treasurer's report was recorded without further amendment. The court chair closed the discussion with no additional public comment.
