Macomb supervisors say Priority Waste service improving after default letter; monitoring to continue

Macomb Township officials told trustees on July 23 that service from Priority Waste has improved since the township’s attorney sent a letter of default and staff met with company leadership.

Supervisor Vivian said the letter was sent the day after the board voted to issue it, and that follow‑up meetings with Priority Waste’s leadership were “productive.” “They reiterated their commitment to catch up on the work that’s been behind,” Supervisor Vivian said. Clerk Posey added that the township has seen a dramatic falloff in calls and emails about missed pickups and that she was “cautiously optimistic” that service is returning to normal.

Township staff reported new equipment deployed to the township and regular communication with Priority’s CEO and COO. Supervisor Vivian said he also met with supervisors from Oakland County and that neighboring townships served out of different Priority yards had not experienced the same level of missed pickups, suggesting a yard‑level equipment issue.

Trustee Cusimano thanked staff for their diligence in managing the problem; Clerk Posey said the township will continue due diligence, monitor service, and explore alternatives if problems reoccur. Residents with ongoing issues were urged to contact the supervisor’s office so staff can document and escalate complaints.

The board did not take formal regulatory or procurement action at the meeting; trustees resolved to continue monitoring and to coordinate with county supervisors and Priority Waste staff.
