Community member urges board to create dyslexia and literacy‑equity subcommittee

Samuel Records, a PPS alumnus, asked the board to form a standing subcommittee on dyslexia and literacy equity. He said dyslexia affects roughly one in five people and that students of color, English learners and those in under‑resourced schools are often underserved. Records proposed a districtwide audit of dyslexia screening, intervention, teacher training and compliance with Oregon early‑literacy and dyslexia laws.
Directors thanked Records for the proposal, said district changes toward structured‑literacy approaches could benefit students with dyslexia and expressed interest in continuing the conversation, including an audit or report back to the board.
