The Lyon County School District Board approved the purchase of Pearson Connexus curriculum for the district's K–5 online alternative education program.
Jim Giannotti, Executive Director of Education Services, said district teachers piloted the Connexus materials and recommended them as a replacement for the existing K–5 instructional materials used in the district's alternative online program. "We were able to preview and utilize the materials in Lyon Online and the teachers ... went through those materials, and I received notice ... that they would like to go forward with those for this next school year," Giannotti said.
Trustee Parsons moved to adopt the curriculum; Trustee Carson seconded. Trustees amended the motion on the record to include the budget authorization of $23,157 from the general fund for one year; the motion passed unanimously.
Giannotti said teachers who will use the materials served as stakeholders in the review and recommended the change because they found Connexus more user-friendly than prior K–5 materials used in the alternative program.
Next steps: district staff will procure the Pearson Connexus materials and implement them in Lyon Online K–5 for the upcoming school year.
