Summary
The Fairhope Board of Adjustment unanimously approved a special exception Oct. 20 to allow U Again Medical, a clinic, to occupy tenant space at 19682 Greeno Road in the Polo Crossing development.
The Fairhope Board of Adjustment on Oct. 20 approved a special exception to allow a medical clinic (U Again Medical) in a B-2 zoned tenant space at 19682 Greeno Road (Polo Crossing).
Mike Jeffries of the City of Fairhope planning staff presented BOA 25.14 and said the five-unit mixed-use development and its parking were approved in 2023; staff concluded the proposed clinic does not exceed the parking allowed by the original development approval and recommended approval of the use in the B-2 General Business district.
Applicant Chris Pixley said the clinic will focus on hormone-replacement therapy and weight-management consultations and will operate with a collaborative physician, citing Dr. Jeff Donahue as the medical director and noting nurse practitioners and nurses will staff the clinic under that physician’s medical oversight. "We have a physician," Pixley said. "We have nurse practitioners who practice in the clinics as well... they do the prescribing under doctor Donahue's guidance." (Quote attributed to Chris Pixley, applicant.)
Board members asked about staffing and the presence of a physician; staff and the applicant said the business model follows state law that permits nurse practitioners to practice under a collaborative physician. No public speakers registered opposition, and the board voted unanimously to approve BOA 25.14 with no conditions listed in the staff report.
