The standards are intended to set minimum wind-rating, building-code, and material requirements for existing and new hangars. Staff said the city has letters to send to owners of severely damaged hangars advising repair or risk of lease termination and that adoption of standards will give staff a clear basis for enforcement. Council asked whether the city has inspection capacity; staff confirmed building/inspection resources are available to verify compliance for both new and repaired structures.
Council approved the hangar standards by motion. Staff will notify affected tenants, carry out inspections as needed, and pursue lease enforcement or required repairs if owners do not bring structures into compliance.
