Woodbury County auditor reports high turnout in special election; clarifies in-person voting and ballot-drop rules

Scaff said the elections office had received 2,255 requested ballots and more than 600 residents had voted in person at the office since Aug. 6. The office recently held a satellite voting station with about 50 voters; additional satellite locations planned this week include the Sioux City Community Theater and a Long Lines station. The auditor said the office will be open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with extended or special hours on Saturday and on election day for ballot drop-off: the office will accept ballots for drop-off until 8:00 p.m. on election night (the date specified in the meeting as "the 26th Tuesday at 08:00PM").
Scaff also reiterated that the ballot drop box previously located outside the courthouse was removed earlier this year; voters who received a mail ballot must either mail it or deliver it in person to the elections office by election night to ensure it is counted.
The auditor emphasized that precincts and polling locations vary and encouraged voters to check the county elections website for precinct assignments and polling locations. She noted that many school-based polling places will be active while classes are in session and that some congestion is expected during student drop-off and pickup hours.
