Haven Treatment Center tells Vancouver school board it launched free mental-health screenings for Washington students

Margie Barla, chief executive officer of Haven Treatment Center, used the public-comment period at the Vancouver School District board meeting to introduce the center and announce statewide free mental-health screenings for students.
Barla said Haven is a residential treatment facility located at 2805 E. 19th Street and provides trauma beds for children displaced from foster care or trafficking. She said the center has launched free mental-health screenings for Washington students, has a psychiatrist as medical director and licensed clinical staff, and operates an outpatient program open roughly 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for students.
"We provide trauma beds... we have officially launched our free mental health screenings for the entire state of Washington," Barla told the board. She said the outpatient work would coordinate with schools to maintain student school assignments and provide excuse notes for group therapy attendance when appropriate. Barla added Haven is working toward accreditation with The Joint Commission.
Board members did not take action on the announcement; it was presented during public comment so no board response was offered during the meeting aside from staff receiving materials for follow-up.
