District counsel or staff introduced the policy revision as a clarification to the district's procedures for challenging library materials. The revision specifies that a parent or legal guardian of a student enrolled in the district is the party eligible to initiate the formal challenge procedure captured in the district's accompanying procedure documents.
"The library materials in our school libraries may be challenged by a parent or legal guardian of a student, through our formal processes," a presenter said during the second reading. Board members briefly discussed the change and one director emphasized that while only parents or legal guardians can file a formal challenge, others remain welcome to contact the district or email concerns for staff review.
A motion to approve the second reading and adopt revised Policy 2021 passed with all board members present voting to approve.
