St. Lucie County commissioners on Aug. 19 appointed Assistant County Attorney Catherine Barbieri as interim county attorney following the announced retirement of the county's current attorney. The board also approved a 10% interim salary increase for the temporary appointment.
County staff said the current county attorney will retire a week from Friday and that by rule the board must appoint an interim publicly so the interim can sign and represent the county until a permanent replacement is selected. A commissioner moved to appoint Barbieri and to provide a 10% interim increase to reflect the additional responsibilities; the board approved the motion by voice vote.
Barbieri accepted the interim appointment and will assume the duties of county attorney while the board conducts a public search for a permanent replacement.
Ending: The county attorney search process will proceed; current county staff will continue normal operations with Barbieri serving in the interim role.
