Dawson County held the second of three public hearings on its proposed 20.25 millage rate on Sept. 4; no residents spoke during the hearing.
County officials announced this was the second hearing (the first was at 11 a.m. on Sept. 4) and that the third hearing is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Sept. 11. After asking for public comment and receiving none, the chair closed the hearing.
One commissioner used the public hearing portion of the meeting to emphasize that several recent exemptions reduced the county’s tax base and that the board still faces funding needs for positions, projects and salary increases for county employees. Commissioners noted they will consider public safety staffing and other budget priorities as they weigh the millage rate at the Sept. 11 hearing, when the board may vote on a final rate.
