Council approves confirmations, airport permits and a $29.75 million settlement; several bond items continued

The Los Angeles City Council met Friday, July 14, and took a series of actions including confirmations of city appointments, approval of airport operating permits, adoption of a large settlement and approval of several consent items while deferring further action on a proposed fire station bond.

In roll-call votes, the council confirmed Miguel Contreras to the Board of Airport Commissioners (vote recorded as 12 ayes) and confirmed Christopher C. Pack to an added seat on the Board of Airport Commissioners (vote recorded as 11 ayes). A separate nomination, Richard Luna to the South LA Area Planning Commission, was withdrawn by the mayor’s office.

The council confirmed Robert Nizic to the Recreation and Parks Commission after extended debate over a council policy about commissioners running for elective office; the confirmation was recorded as 8 ayes and 4 noes.

On airport business, the council reconsidered airport permits and then approved permits for all airlines at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). The reconsideration passed and the subsequent approval was recorded 12 ayes, 1 no.
