Council committee reports progress on senior center: part-time hire, county meals and volunteer interest

At the Sept. 3 meeting the Parks, Recreation and Quality of Life Committee reported continuing work on the Ridgecrest senior center. Committee members said the part-time staff advertisement closed the prior Friday and staff were screening applicants, the county is coordinating to keep meal service, and community volunteers expressed interest in restarting programs.
Councilmembers said the committee heard strong attendance and support at a recent meeting and that volunteers indicated a willingness to help run activities and form leadership for a "Happy Time Seniors" effort. The committee reported completed park projects (Shetland Field, Upjohn and Pearson Park basketball courts) and said the next parks project could be Pony Field; videos of completed projects were posted by the city.
Staff and committee members plan to bring continued updates to the council and have agreed to carry the senior center topic forward for future agenda consideration to track kitchen improvements, volunteer coordination and transportation services for seniors.
