Sweetwater appoints Eddie Thompson as parks director; Michael Jenkins promoted to assistant director

The Sweetwater Board of Commissioners voted to appoint Eddie Thompson as the city’s parks and recreation director and promoted Michael Jenkins to assistant director.

Commissioner Richardson moved to appoint Thompson after an interview process, saying, “I would like to ask the board to appoint, Eddie Thompson as our new parks and rec director.” The motion carried with all commissioners voting in favor.

Richardson also announced the promotion of Michael Jenkins to the department’s assistant director position, describing both candidates as a strong leadership team who will “take our parks and rec department back to where it needs to be.” Richardson thanked interim staff member Sean for holding the department during the transition.

The board offered immediate congratulations to Thompson and Jenkins. No supplemental funding, job descriptions, or effective dates beyond the appointments were disclosed at the meeting.
